Roster Date Author Record
Definition 2026-03-04 pC wall [Input: ZK304pC.j]
Description (summary) 2026-03-04 pC The wall is oriented east–west and consists of two stones in width and two courses in height. It is only partially exposed and continues eastward into the section, where it remains to be further excavated. The wall is perpendicular to ^wall2 and shares the same orientation as ^wall6 and ^wall1. North of ^wall1, an earthen glacis slopes southward, reaching the back side of ^wall3. It is possible that only the southern face of the wall was exposed. The upper course has been damaged by ^pit3, which removed several stones. The wall is built in rubble-stone masonry, with medium-sized, irregularly shaped stones laid in courses and embedded in mud mortar. The stones were selected and positioned so that their better-shaped surfaces face upward and southward, giving the southern face a more regular appearance. Smaller stones fill the gaps between the larger blocks. In contrast to the relatively regular southern face, the northern side is rough and irregular. [Input: ZK304pC.j]

Function

Roster Date Author Record
Generic function (1st degree of specificity) 2026-03-04 pC The wall probably served to terrace the mound, as indicated by the pronounced slope on both its southern and northern sides. Alternatively, it may represent the eastern continuation of the revetment wall. [Input: ZK304pC.j]
Notes on function 2026-03-04 pC The wall can be interpreted as a screen wall (or curtain wall). It does not appear to be free-standing, as only its southern face is carefully constructed, whereas the northern face is very irregular. Since the base of the wall has not been reached, its full depth and original height remain uncertain; however, it was probably not particularly high. [Input: ZK304pC.j]
